Four hours on the gravel bar for a bear that never came back down. Got the river instead, and the river was better. Most of this work is waiting for the wrong thing and being handed something else.

Field notes
Notes from the truck
Nine miles in to a basin I'd only seen on a topo. The lake was where the map said and the light was not, so I stayed two days and got it on the second evening.
New moon, no wind, eleven degrees. Shot until the battery warmer gave out and then sat in the truck watching it anyway. Living in the trailer means the far side of the range is always an option.
About
Hinterlight Works
I photograph landscapes, wildlife, and night skies across Alaska and the Colorado high country. The name is the working idea: light from past the edge of the map, in country most people drive by.
I live full time in a travel trailer, which means the camera goes where the truck goes and the truck goes wherever the weather and the animals are. Most of these frames were made a long walk from where it was parked, at the ends of the day when everything worth photographing is moving.
Prints, licensing, and commissioned work are all handled directly. If you want something from a place I haven't been yet, ask anyway.
